A football team would never win a game if all the team were
quarterbacks - or if all the team were offensive ends. Putting together
the management and content development teams at the Sport Maniac, we
utilized the same principle. We called upon premier people in different
categories. That's how we built our winning team.
Marilyn M. Pink, Ph.D., MBA, P.T., - Chair and Founder
Marilyn Pink has over 20 years of experience in healthcare
and sports as a businesswoman, clinician and scientist.
She holds masters degrees in business and in physical therapy
as well as a doctoral degree in research methodology and
anatomy. She has leveraged her academic training into both the
public and private sectors. She has proven successes in the corporate
world as well as in startup companies. The focus of her career
is orthopedics and sports medicine. In the sports world, she
has worked with Olympic, professional, collegiate and recreational
athletes. In the medical world, she has worked with hospitals and
outpatient clinics.
Examples of her accomplishments include the following:
- Founder of a successful consulting firm,
- Participated in the management of a turn-around hospital situation which resulted in a
250% increase in revenues in two years,
- Developed and implemented short term and long term plans for problem resolution in
business niches that entailed growth strategies, staffing, physical plant
and policies,
- Performed market analysis studies, developed and implemented
turnkey operations for a nationwide start-up rehabilitation consulting
company,
- Developed an orthopedic product line model that was identified
as the model to follow within 100+ hospitals in a publicly held company,
- Designed a prototype for an integrated spine program for a hospital system which
involved health club liaisons,
- Developed Web strategies and products for the Western Region of a chain of publicly
held hospitals,
- Initiated and facilitated 15 major PR activities
(CNN, NBC, Vogue, Muscle and Fitness, LA Times, etc.) in one year,
- Published and presented over 100 national and international articles and lectures on
managerial, clinical and scientific topics,
- Co-published books on golf exercises, baseball exercises and a textbook on orthopaedic
surgery.
Frank W. Jobe, M.D. - Medical Director
Dr. Jobe is the Medical Director of the Baseball Sport Maniac and the Golf Sport Maniac,
and a board member. Dr. Jobe is one of the founders of the internationally recognized
Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. The associates at Kerlan-Jobe serve as team
physicians/consultants for a variety of elite teams including the Los Angeles
Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Anaheim Angeles, Anaheim Ducks,
PGA, Sr. PGA, and the University of Southern California Athletic Department.
Dr. Jobe was the first physician to attend Major League Baseball Spring Training,
and many believe it to be he who defined the role of ‘team physician’ in baseball.
Examples of his accomplishments include:
- Clinical Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, USC,
- Orthopaedic Consultant, LA Dodgers,
- Orthopaedic Consultant PGA Tour and Sr. PGA tour,
- Published over 150 peer reviewed research articles in Sports Medicine,
- Internationally recognized lecturer in Sports Medicine, and,
- Developed the elbow and shoulder surgeries that allowed injured professional ball players
to return to play. The respective first recipients of these were Tommy John and Orel Hershiser.
Alan D. Liker, Esq. - Board Member
Mr. Liker serves on the board of FIT-HITS. He is an attorney whose career
has focused on business development, finance and tax law. He has served
on multiple boards from start up companies to privately held family businesses
and publicly held companies. He has guided many intellectual property processes
through their growth phases. He has worked with companies going public as well
as those going private.
Examples of his accomplishments and activities include:
- Member of Herbalife International Inc. Board of Directors and their Audit,
Finance and Business Development Committees,
- Played a leading role in preparing Herbalife of Japan for an IPO in Japan,
- Principle advisor to the founding family of Budget rent a car,
- Principle advisor to the Shaklee family,
- Member of Shaklee Corporation Board of Directors,
- Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committees for
Team Communication Inc., and
- Principal at Xerox Development Corporation: played a leading role
in the X-Ten Rulemaking.
Greg Goodman, MBA - Business Advisor
Mr. Goodman is the Business Advisor to FIT-HITS. For
over 20 years, Greg has provided IT and Business Transformation
consulting services to a variety of industries including healthcare,
real estate, hi-tech, financial services, engineering services,
hospitality, and gaming. Greg focuses on helping companies build compelling
business models that leverage both package and emerging technologies.
Greg recently left IBM’s Business Consulting Services to focus on helping
small and medium sized businesses in Southern California. Prior
to joining IBM, Greg was a Partner with Andersen’s Business Consulting
Practice where he was responsible for eBusiness services and Advanced
Technology solutions in the West.
Relevant experience:
- TechSpace (formerly known as Enfrastructure) – Acting Chief Technology
Officer for one of Orange County’s largest startup’s ($500 million
valuation on first round financing of $50 million). Founded
in 1997, TechSpace is the nation's premier full-service facilities and
infrastructure provider (including flexible office space,
state-of-the-art technology services and business process outsourcing
solutions). Lead negotiations for strategic alliances with IBM, Microsoft,
and Andersen. The strategic alliances were pivotal in securing first round financing. Also
developed the technology platform and application architecture, build
out/recruiting of the IT organization, and assisted with raising the
first round of financing.
- Andersen’s Southwest eBusiness Practice Leader – Launched Andersen’s
eBusiness practice in the Southwest. Responsibilities
included service line strategy development, marketing/communications,
recruiting, public speaking, sales, and engagement management. Greg led eBusiness
strategy and design engagements for Southern California companies including
Dole Foods, Isuzu America, and The Capital Group. Greg
also routinely spoke at conferences, Andersen client events, and
leading Universities (UCLA, USC, UCI) about aligning business
objectives and technology investments to support eBusiness initiatives.
Scott Hodson, MS - Technology Development
Scott Hodson has over 12 years professional IT experience, particularly working
with independent software vendors and on-line service providers. Scott's approach
to technology is solution-oriented, making businesses more profitable and productive
through easy-to-use software and online services. Scott has a unique ability to
solve business problems with technical solutions. Born and raised in Silicon Valley,
Scott has engendered a love for the entrepreneurial process and has worked with many
start-ups throughout his career.
- President and Founder of Ubero, Inc., a Southern California based software
solutions provider.
- VP Technology, Co-Founder, Commerce5, an outsourced e-commerce service provider,
which was a spin-off of Buy.com, servicing clients such as Sony, Toshiba,
Western Digital, Kia Motors, and many more.
- Interim CTO, ThinkTank, a technology incubator, which helped launch more than a
dozen Internet startups.
- Occasional guest speaker of technology management strategies and trends to USC
Marshall School of Business, UC Irvine Graduate School of Management and
the Orange County Chapter of the American Marketing Association.
